High profile errors last season saw the French centre back widely criticised, and he has found his place in the starting line up taken by Kolo Toure this season.
However, speaking in L'Equipe, Arsene Wenger insisted that his faith in the player had not waned.
"I think he has adapted well," insisted Wenger.
"He quickly reached the level technically and his understanding of the game is fine.
"Perhaps he needed a little more time to adapt to the virility of the challenges.
"At the moment Pascal is facing unexpected competition from Kolo Toure, but I rely on him.
"He is clever, anticipates well and is an excellent player."
