FA Barclaycard Premiership

Leeds regained top spot in the Premiership on Sunday afternoon, coming from behind to beat Tottenham at Elland Road.

Gus Poyet put the visitors in front on 52 minutes with a sweet left-foot strike, but Ian Harte levelled nine minutes later, and Harry Kewell grabbed the winner eight minutes from time.

David O'Leary's men also had a Mark Viduka effort ruled out for offside but they deserved to record their first league win in four attempts - although they were indebted to a Spurs ricket for the winner.

Neill Sullivan and Chris Perry left a Dean Richards back flick to each other, and Kewell nipped in to claim his sixth of the season.

The home side had a monopoly of the first-half chances, with Lee Bowyer guilty on more than occasion.

The former Charlton man fired straight at Sullivan early on, before fluffing his left-foot shot beyond the far post after he had been sent clear by Olivier Dacourt.

He then forcing Sullivan into a save low down with his shot from the angle, before he was forced to hobble off before the interval presenting £9m signing Seth Johnson with a chance to make his debut appearance.

Kewell also had a couple of openings, but like Bowyer, he could not find the composure in front of goal, although it took a fine block from Mauricio Taricco to block one effort bound for the top corner.

Nigel Martyn had been almost a spectator in the first-half, and he was so again, albeit in a prone position, as Spurs stunned the home crowd by taking the lead.

Johnson lost the ball in midfield, and Ziege broke clear down the left and squared for Poyet who made room before firing a superb left-foot effort into the top corner.

Viduka's then saw his lob ruled out for offside, but the hoe side's disappointment was short-lived.

Harte's 25-yard right-foot drive was tipped onto the post by Sullivan, only for the ball to ricochet off his back and over the line.

Leeds had the bit between their teeth now were now back in the driving seat and Robbie Keane was  denied by Sullivan's legs as he burst clear.

But then Kewell, in his last appearance for three weeks because of Australian World Cup commitments, stole in to ensure that justice was done - and halt Spurs four match winning streak in the process.
