England's netballers stunned world champions New Zealand with a spectacular display at the MEN Arena on Sunday evening, to defeat them 50-45.

England led from the first whistle, and despite 37/38 from star Kiwi shooter Irene Van Dyk, and some spirited defence by vice captain Temepara George and young star Laura Langman, New Zealand had no answer to the flair and pace of the English attack.

Louisa Brownfield top scored with 22 goals for England, ably supported by an impressive performance by the athletic Pamela Cookey at GA. Meanwhile, van Dyk was closed down by some clinical defensive work by GK Geva Mentor and GD Sonia Mkoloma, who delivered the killer blow, by blocking a van Dyk shot under the post within the final minute.

New Zealand will now have to regroup before meeting World Number two Australia in Birmingham on Tuesday night.
