DOB: 30th September 1961
Nationality: Belgium
GP Starts: 29

Eric van de Poele has enjoyed a career in motor sport spanning over 20 years, he has won numerous titles including the Belgian and German Touring car Championships in 1985 and 1987 respectively.

He began his career racing in the French F3 championship in 1984 and also raced in the F3000 Championship and Touring Car Championship before graduating to F1.

His F1 career however was marred with disappointment, he completed just 24 of the 29 Grand Prix he took part in between 1991 and 1992.

In 1991 he finished 9th at the San Marino Grand Prix driving for the Modena Lamborghini F1 team, this was to be the best result of his F1 career. While he was with the Brabham team the following year he finished 13th at the South African Grand Prix.

Following his uncompetitive time in F1 he turned his hand to Touring Cars and sports car racing and was much more successful. He won the Sebring 12 hours in 1995 driving a Scandia Ferrari and also again in 1996 this time in a Doyle R&S MK3.
