Arsenal are ready to sacrifice Ray Parlour and Francis Jeffers in their bid to lure Harry Kewell from Leeds.

According to the News of the World, the Gunners are lining up a £7million offer PLUS the two England internationals as Arsene Wenger watches the pennies while trying to overhaul his squad in pursuit of Premiership champions Manchester United.

The Sunday Mirror is also convinced a swap deal for the Australian will go ahead, although they say that England Under-21 ace Jermaine Pennant is the bait.

One way of raising funds - however unlikley - for the chase would be to sell skipper Patrick Vieira for a cool £25million.

The Sunday Express claims Wenger himself put the idea to the Highbury board after learning he has only £10million to spend on Kewell, Leeds team-mate Paul Robinson and Juventus hitman David Trezeguet.

Vieira, like Robert Pires, is still to sign a new deal with the Gunners even though he has constantly pledged his future to the club.

Everton have Roonaldo and now Liverpool are looking at Ronaldo, according to the Sunday People.

But the blue half of Merseyside can rest easy, because Gerard Houllier is not after the World Cup winning Brazilian ace but Sporting Lisbon's teenage sensation Cristiano Ronaldo, part of Portugal's crack Under-20 side.

One Premiership club after a South American striker - Blackburn. Graeme Souness, who is on the verge of signing Lorenzo Amoruso from Rangers, is watching Ecuador's Carlos Tanorio, according to the News of the World.

The same paper suggests Fulham are waiting in the wings should Eidur Gudjohnsen's frosty relationship with Chelsea not thaw, while Slizard Nemeth could pay for his outburst against the fair maidens of Middlesbrough.

The Slovakia international says he has only seen two good-looking women in as many years on Teeside and although he denied the claims and declared his love for the area, the News of the World believes he's on his way out to make way for Kevin Phillips.

Manchester United are never far from the top of the tabloids and aside from the David Beckham saga, their new goalkeeper Tim Howard says he will be at Old Trafford with fellow American Brad Friedel next season.

Howard will complete a £1.8million move from New York Metro Stars and, according to the Sunday Express, expects to be Friedel's understudy at Old Trafford.
