After a celebrated career with Spurs and Watford, Gerry joined Real Mallorca in 1983, spending 3 seasons in Spain where he was top goal scorer in La Liga during his first season.
Gerry also had a successful World Cup in Spain in 1982, when, representing Northern Ireland, he won the Golden Boot for being the best British player, scoring 3 goals for his country.
This experience enables Gerry to provide informed commentary on Sky Sports' La Liga coverage during a time which has seen the League and its teams rise up and establish themselves as the best in Europe.
Gerry, who won the last of his 63 caps against Brazil in the '86 World Cup in Mexico clearly enjoys his role. 'I love it. It's definitely the strongest league in the world although The Premier League is getting closer.
'They have the right idea in Spain - the play good attacking football, teams are encouraged to be creative and skillful and keep the ball on the deck. They score goals for fun.'
