I believe that Strauss has led England very well through this summer against Pakistan. He is a good captain and is also cool and calm enough to lead England to victory in Australia. Freddie is an amazing tallent and has to bring himself back up to the standard he has set for himself. I also think we need to divide up the tasks ahead in Australia & should not load them onto Freddy as we have enough tallent to handle it.
Hanife Majid, Nottingham
Abid, RedditchStrauss is England's man. Flintoff has got enough on his hands at the moment with his fitness, and Strauss gets the best out of the younger players.
Tom, BrightonThis is a one horse race. It can only be Strauss, who has proved beyond all doubt that he is the only choice to captain England. Freddy's fitness is still an unknown factor, so let him concentrate on that and eventually his batting and bowling; leave the captain's job to Strauss whose performance as a batsman has actually improved this summer, despite the additional responsibility.
John Hazzard, ShrewsburyI think that Flintoff would be our best bet, he is our talisman and can lead from the front and although it might not be the best of reasons i think that he will get the best out of his good mate Harmison who is probably second to Freddie as our potential match winners.
Marc, HullI has to be strauss.Freddie will have way to much to do. It will just be good to have him back in the side- captaincy willl be way to much of a burden! I just hope England retain the Ashes! GO ENGLAND!
Hannah, WellingtonI think it should be Andrew Strauss for the simple reason that Freddie needs to prove his match fitness. If he is not match fit the same thing will happen to him that happened to Micheal Owen at the football World Cup. Strauss has shown he has got a buzz going with the lads - the lads around him have been given a chance and are performing.
Mandeep Bansal, BirminghamI think it has to be Strauss. He has batted ever so well since he has been captain so why should it change in the Ashes. Freddie has enough to think about already as well as being captain, so in my view it has to be Strauss.
Michael, LoughboroughI think Andrew Strauss is the man for the job as Freddie puts too much pressure on himself, take India for example Freddie bowled 50 overs and including extras that's over 300 balls - far too many for a seamer. Strauss has proven himself as a winner vs Pakistan and deserves the honour. Whoever is skipper I hope we can retain that little urn down under. COME ON ENGLAND
Jon Hawkins, Stroud, GloucestershireIt's simple, Strauss must be captain as he has been a permanent fixture in the side for a while now and is a bold leader on the field of play. He has coped with being captain brilliantly and is still scoring runs, which is different to past captains who have struggled at times. Freddie needs to sort his fitness out and does not need the worry, he also made some strange decisions in the Sri Lanka series which seemed to show inexperience.
Josh, PeacockStrauss for me. Freddie is our only match-winner. We have other batsmen if Andrew fails, we don't have another Freddie!
Carol Hall, MansfieldIt has to be Strauss. He's got a decent brain, sound tactics and great competitve attitude. The extra burden on Freddy to captain, recover from injury and get back into the swing of things will be too much, even for Freddy.
Gordon Cooper, FarnboroughIt's got to be Straussy, as far as I am concerned his results with the England team since he took charge (minus Sri Lanka) have been outstanding, he's basically carried on from Vaughan. Since Flintoff took over we struggled to draws with both India and Sri Lanka (that with him in the side) whereas Strauss, minus Freddie, has led them to a comfortable Test series victory over Pakistan and rejuvenated the one day team. Leave Fred to do what he does best, that doesn't involve the captaincy!
Steve Hellawell, HuddersfieldDon't get me wrong I think Freddie is a FANTASTIC player but the Captaincy has to go to Strauss. Freddie has enough on his plate without being burdened with this as well. And Strauss has done very well since he was thrown in at the deep end.
Simon, GloverGot to be Strauss, as Arthur says he has come in and done a good job and is batting very well, so let it be Strauss, as we need Flintoff to focus on bowling 20 overs a day and scoring runs all on the back of a long-term injury. Let's not make it too hard for Freddie!!! P.S. Mal Loye must go to India for the ICC Trophy.
Anthony Walsh, ManchesterStrauss couldn't inspire a yawn?? Did he not just lead England to victory against Pakistan without our so-called 'talisman' - the same country that beat us last winter when Fred was playing?? Anyone with half a cricket brain would leave Fred to focus on his game (batting, opening the bowling and fielding in the slips!) after coming back from injury as it will take a wee while, and let Strauss carry on the good work. It is a no brainer!!
Alasdair, AyrI think that it has got to be Strauss because Flintoff is probably our best player and I think that we need him just to concentrate on his batting and bowling and not have the extra burden on captaining the team. Also Strauss is in good form with the bat and he looks like being a good captain for England.
Lawrence Smith, BasildonIt's got to be Freddie. He is our talisman and our best player, so he should lead. Strauss couldn't inspire a yawn, and what we are going to need in the Aussies' backyard this winter is inspiration by the bucketload. Go Freddie!
Barry Weston, BuxtonThe country seems pretty well split on this, but for me it's got to be Strauss. His form with the bat has improved since he was given the captaincy, Freddie has already got enough on his plate. I remember 'Botham's Ashes' as well as 'Freddie's' and it was only when he handed the captaincy to Mike Brearley that Botham got going.
Arthur Moore, Twickenham
