After steering England to a series win over Pakistan, should stand-in skipper Andrew Strauss be named as England's captain for this winter's Ashes series Down Under?

Struass is the man who is fit, he's in form, he's also got the team's support who have the winning mentality and the momentum at this current time. It would be a negative move to remove him as Captain and force it on to Flintoff, who has enough presure on him as it is.
Freddie Wright, Wembley

I agree that Strauss should remain captain. But the way the England team works at the minute I dont think the captaincy is as big an issue as in years gone by. England have such a strong team bond at present they all chip in and everyone gets an input. Strauss, if chosen as skipper, can always turn to Freddie and ask his opinions as well as Trescothick. They are a team of leaders.
Gareth Walsh, Largs

Andrew Strauss for captain. We already rely too much on Andrew Flintoff. Freddie will enjoy the Ashes more if he isn't captain and, unlike Vaughan, captaining England doesn't affect Strauss' batting or fielding.
Lennon, Clacton-on-sea

Strauss should captain England for the Ashes because he has all it takes to be a captain in the Vaughn mold.A fine back foot player, a good fielder and from what we have seen so far is a thinking captain. Though the world loves Freddie, we should allow him to be free of the tensions of captaincy.
Subramani Aiyar, Bangalore

Three tests, no losses. The only thing I have against Strauss is when the pressure is on he has run out of ideas. It isnt until the wickets start falling that he looks like a real leader. With our bowlers anyone could be good enough to lead this great team of ours. This is the last Test coming up. I would like to see a new face seeing has we have already won the series, Adil Rashid or Stuart Broad.
Neil, Hanman

Strauss is the way forward, the former Middlesex captain has now proved himself in this role at Test level. Freddie, as mercurial as his talents are, is coming back from a similar injury he had prior to the home Ashes series and we need him firing on all cylinders with both the bat and the ball if we are to rifle the Aussies in their own back yard. As for presence, merely having 'Super Fred' fit and in the team should be enough to do it.
Craig Fordham, Ewell

I think Strauss has done an excellent job as captain. When Freddie comes back it would be best for him to be in the right frame of mind to bat and bowl and leave the added pressure of captaincy to Strauss.
Simon Glover, Fleet

I think Andrew Strauss has done brilliantly for England and he led from the front by making crucial runs for the team. He organised the team well and Monty and Sajid were amazing in the bowling attack.
Asif Sarfraz, London

There just isn't anyone else. Why would you want to change it now anyway? History is littered with knee-jerk reactions regarding changing captains. Strauss has done really well to fill Freddies boots. With both Vaughan (long term) and Freddie (hopefully not too long) injured it makes perfect sense to keep a winning captain.
John Hunter, Daventry

I think the captaincy should be judged on Flintoff's fitness before the first Test begins. If Flintoff is match fit for the first Test then he would be my preferred choice due to his unique style and his ability to lead from the front. However, if Fred isnt fit, then Strauss will skipper the side and I believe he should retain the captaincy throughout the series as I dont think it is a positive move to change the captain midway through a tour.
Kytey, Wigan

Strauss is the best leader, he puts the lads straight when they are doing wrong and he isnt afraid of a challenge so if Vaughan doesnt come back it should be Strauss for captain!
Stacey, Consett

The series win against Pakistan has changed everything. What is needed for Australia is a perceived winner as captain and Andrew Strauss is now that winner (as Michael Vaughan was a perceived winner in the series up to Ashes 2005). As we now have that winning formula there is no need to go back to considering Flintoff as captain this winter - he won't be match ready and will have his hands full as a match winner with both bat and ball.
Richard Walker, Hove

In my opinion Strauss should stay on as captain. As much as Fred did a good job in India and against Sri Lanka, it makes sense to have good continuity through the preparations for the Ashes after a winning series. I'd also like to be a little more hesitant in writing off Michael Vaughan, he is a very steely character and I'd be very surprised if he wasn't leading England out at Lords next May.
Dean, Nottingham

Keep Strauss as captain for the Ashes. Freddie has enough on his plate without having to tax his brain too!
Hugo, Macclesfield

I admit to questioning Strauss's place in the team earlier in the summer, but he has excelled himself as captain. His batting has been stimulated rather than hindered by the burden of captaincy, while dear old Freddie is not guaranteed to be fit for the Ashes. Strauss should be selected as captain immediately. It makes no sense to relieve a successful captain of his position, while Flintoff has enough on his plate as both bowler and batsman, not to mention slip fielder.
Gary Watton, Belfast

A series win over an injury-hit Pakistan team should not change the plans - Super Freddie Flintoff is the man to lead us to glory Down Under!
Amos Manfield, Derby

Straussy has done well with the resources at his disposal. But the sheer presence of Freddie can put fear into opponents in the same way Martin Johnson did for the England rugby team.
Paul, London

I think Strauss is the right man to lead England forward for the forseeable future. Let's face it, there's little chance of Michael Vaughan ever returning to Test cricket.
Bob Radley, Norwich
