The penalty could have given Boro a chance but Sevilla were the better team. Long balls to Viduka and Hasselbaink just didnt work. Why was Maccarone on the bench again!!?
All credit to Boro for getting this far.

Steve Mearns, AberdeenAs a Boro fan, a terrible disappointment. The game highlighted the good and bad side of McClaren as a tactican. On occasions he has turned things around in spectacular fashion. Last night the balance looked wrong, Boro were overun in midfield and wide and maybe a 3-5-2 formation would have worked better. Playing 4 forwards won't keep on working and in the end Sevilla had too much class on the break. Still, a massive achievement for a small town in Europe!
John Holmes, NorthallertonThe Sevilla coach got his tactics right, itss as simple as that. Boro got through to the final in amazing style but they relied a lot on second half comebacks. The Sevilla coach knew this and made sure his team counter attacked at the right times in the game. This is the reason why the scoreline was so emphatic.
Fred, CornwallBoro showed just what a poor team they really are; they were totally outclassed by the Spaniards. McClaren is an overrated manager and his 'success' has not been justified with the money and players he has had at his disposal.
Mark Boyle, GlasgowSo much for those famous victories in the quarter and semi finals, the only reason they managed to comeback from the dead against those sides is because they were poor. Sevilla, unfortunately for boro, were not, and completely outplayed them.
Mark, Bishop AucklandSevilla were deserved winners. I enjoyed watching them. It was clear that they were a different quality of opposition than Boro faced in the quarters and semis. Unlucky Boro, Well Done Seville.
Bobby, BirminghamIt was a shame that Boro couldn't pull one last miracle out the hat (penalty or no plenalty), but Sevilla deserved it - a class apart. I would worry that McClaren seemed to have nothing in the tank to respond at this level - even the substitutions (like Erikson's for England) didn't fire this time. So the question for me is - can he really handle managing at the top of the International scene - I hope so, as he will be leading England into the Euro08 qualifiers!
Buzz, ReadingIf England hadn't confirmed Mclarren as manager before this game, they would have won, he didn't care that they lost, you could tell, he wanted to impress FA, but then it didn't matter because he had the job already.
