Luiz Felipe Scolari has dramatically withdrawn his interest in becoming England's next coach. Send us your views on the Brazilian's decision. Is he right to blame the press?

I can't believe people harping on about the manager being English. If your club was going to appoint a new manager and you had a choice between Scolari and McClaren, who would you pick! So why is it any different for the national team. We want someone who's the best at the job independent of nationality. And Martin O'Neill is not English!!
Zeeshan Raja, London

Good Good! Scolari stays here in Portugal. He's the best coach. He won against "your" England in the quarters remember? And I think every team nations may have a national coach. Scolari speaks Portuguese... I'm very happy. That's all. Good luck for you guys.
Louren篠d'Orey, Lisbon

I'm just wanting The FA to finally appoint an Englishman! I don't care who as we have enough talent to make even Sven look good.
Spencer Warne, Salt Lake City, USA

I'm sure Sven would deem Scolari to be a wise man. If you manage a team where the press dictate every selection as well as pry into your personal life, how can you succeed? We must ask ourselves why England hasn't done better in recent years? An English coach is definitely a MUST now; as press pressure would be something he's been used to for a long time.
Tom Olasina, London

Totally happy with his decision to say No. There can be only one choice to make no matter what! MR. MARTIN O'NEILL the next England manager
Rod Peach, Bolton

You can't blame the FA. They never announced it was going to be Scolari. The press got hold of it and revealed. As for media intrusion. What about in Brazil, it's far worse than here. My money is on Sam. If it's McClaren they had better not open Wembley as they won't get 20,000 in there.
Simon Lewis, Barkingside

Trevor Brooking should just do it! Did wonders at West Ham. True gent.
Rossi Chebman, Blaydon

It's good, possibly now maybe The FA can offer it to McClaren. If not Martin O'Neill, he would be good as he's done absolutely brilliant whereever he's been as manager.
Frances Carvell, High Wycombe,Bucks

I cant believe it!! He was the man for the job and could have sorted the team out. Still think that he may think again after we knock them out of this year's competition. I think we have just got to let Sven do the job and see Rooney lift that cup above his head!! C'mon England!
Danny Callender, Essex

As long as the manager is someone who can win us the World Cup his nationality should have no bearing on whether he should be given the job or not. Scolari seemed to be the right man, but with intrusive press who can blame him for turning it down. This should be an eye opener for all the media to respect individuals privacy. Just don't give it to Sam or Steve McClaren. We need inspirational figures!!!
Nathan Garbett, Leeds

It's a shame he is not interested but who can blame him with the press intrusion that comes with the job. Glenn Hoddle lost the job for off the field comments, Sven has been hounded out because of his private life. Scolari is the only one with the right credentials, I wouldn't let MaClaren manage my local sweetshop, and Big Sam gets the best of yard dogs not the cream of the crop. Where do we go from here??
James Doran, Liverpool

With The FA's obsession with trying to get a coach named before the World Cup began they've gone and thrown away the chance of landing 'Big Phil' as the next coach. They only have themselves to blame. Had 'Big Phil' said yes what position would that have left him in Portugal, he may well however have said no just to appease the Portuguese and show that he is committed for the World Cup with them and take the job later, but that may well just be wishful thinking.
Nicky Morris, Sheffield

I believe strongly that the English managers should get the chance to steer the national team to glory, what's the point in managing at club level and not being given the chance to shine in the national hotseat. Sam Allardyce is the man for the job, he has done wonders at Bolton. Come on England
Russell Whitehead, Slough

He would have made himself unpopular with the Portuguese if he'd accepted before the World Cup had started, and so I suspect he will join after the tournament. At the very least, his reasoning for withdrawing from the race was palpably absurd, which suggests to me it isn't genuine and something else lies behind it. My opinion is that he either has another job lined up or still intends to accept the England job.
Mark Jordan, Harrogate

Big snub for The FA. Not sure Barwick will be able to recover from this. They should have kept things hushed to avoid any embarassment. Please don't bring in Steve McClaren though.
Sean Davies, Bristol

That is great news. Now The FA can appoint a British coach. I believe Martin O'Neill is the best man for the job. He has passion and is not afraid to sort out players.
Peter Pepper, norwich

We don't have good enough potential managers with experience to do the job, Allardyce is not good enough do we have to have an english manager? The press is poor in this country no matter what nationality the manager the British press would never let it go, we are so confident at being total losers
Paul Sherratt, Manchester

He was dead right! This process is dragging on like a bad cold. England need an English manager and I believe Steve McClaren is the man. He's a decent manager and his time with Middlesboro must be coming to an end. Great manager and has been heavily involved internationally already. Still I do believe Sven will guide England to glory so long as he sticks with Gerrard. Who would sack him then??!!!!
Ray Mullins, Bantry
