Hear Nasser on Sky Sports on June 24 as part of the exclusive live coverage of England vs New Zealand in the NatWest series.

Former England skipper Nasser Hussain told Charles Colvile exactly why he chose to join the Sky Sports cricket team. Read his thoughts here...

Charles Colvile: "You've just announced your retirement - what are you going to do now?"

Nasser Hussain: "I think I'm going to the other side of the fence and joining Sky Sports as a commentator and I'm looking forward to it to be honest. I've enjoyed my commentary in the short time I've done with Sky before and I'm looking forward to it, Charles."

Charles Colvile:"Why Sky?"

Nasser Hussain:"Their commitment to cricket both in the Summer and Winter is second to none. They were on my first tour back in 1989 and that was their first tour and my first tour. They're still there now. Being part of a team is very important to me. I've been part of a team all of my life and to go out there in the big wide world on my own is a bit scary. To be part of a team that consists of cricketers and still be involved in cricket is hugely important to me and I just believe that Sky are doing a fantastic job in cricket and if I can add to that in anyway - or try to add to it...  It will also test me a little bit - I've tested myself all my life and it's something new. I'd like to test myself a bit in the commentary box."

Charles Colvile:"And I.T. Botham is part of the team.."

Nasser Hussain:"Yes, he's had a few things to say! I've spoken to Beefy on regular occasions and I have no problems .. that's his job to look at people and analyse people and analyse the side, and no better than coming from someone like I.T. Botham who's done everything in the game. It's up to him to say those things and it's up to me to prove him wrong."

Charles Colvile: "How good a commentator do you think you'll be?"

Nasser Hussain: "I've no idea. I've done very little of it so I've no pretence that I'm suddenly going to go into a different world and be good at it. I've got to learn and learn pretty quickly, but I'll enjoy it because it's the closest thing to captaincy that I've found when I work because you're trying to analyse and think a step ahead as to why players are doing certain things and why captains are doing certain things and why players are reacting the way they are, whether it be on the cricket field or during interviews. I've been pretty good at man-managing people as a captain, so it'll be interesting to see what people have to say in the way they're playing."

Charles Colvile: "Will you be comfortable with commentating on your recent team-mates?"

Nasser Hussain:"I think within the England team - I think Alec and Mike Atherton were key in this - people can criticise, that's their job, as long as it's constructive. It's up to the players to have a look at it and listen to it and watch it and then try to prove people wrong and try to go out there and do the best of their abilities. I can give an insight  - I've just come out of the side and I know exactly what those players go through, I know what they do in the dressing room and I can give an insight into each individual on what they're going through, what their technical failings are and what their technical strengths are - mental, technical, everything."
